Exploring Faith
Spiritual Development and Nurture
Our Vision: We offer a variety of programs throughout the year to explore our Christian heritage and deepen our faith through ongoing Bible study, meditation, and prayer groups, movie/discussion nights, lecture series, study groups, concerts, workshops and other gatherings. Two ongoing programs throughout the year are The Listening Heart, an interspiritual meditation group, and Women Exploring Spirituality, a group that meets monthly and bases its discussions around the reading of a book chosen by the group.
Spiritual Practices at FirstMet
We encourage you to explore a range of spiritual practices to see which ones might best fit for yourself. One basic practice we encourage is to gather regularly with the worshiping community. Some spiritual practices are explored in our programs, for example, art, writing or photography as a spiritual practice. If quieter forms of spiritual practice don’t appeal to you, you may want to read Nancy Reeve’s “Spirituality for Extroverts” (copy available in the Mountford Library). Two ancient practices that still resonate for many are the Examen and Lectio Divina. As a congregation, a number of us are practicing the Lectio using upcoming passage from the lectionary. Another spiritual practice that is included during the 11:00 am worship services during Lent 2013 is the Practice of Presence. Why not give these a try and see where they lead?
